Privacy Policy
Auri is a language-learning play app for autistic children aged 3 to 10, used together with a parent. It is made by ByTTech. We built Auri so that what your child does in the app stays on your device. This policy explains exactly what that means, and the two small exceptions.
The short version
- Everything about your child (nickname, birth year, favourite themes, settings and every answer they give) is stored only on your iPhone or iPad. We never receive it.
- There is no account and no sign-in in this version. We do not ask for your email, name or phone number.
- Auri does not use the camera, the microphone, your photos, your location or your contacts.
- There are no ads, no ad tracking and nothing to buy. We do not sell data, and we do not share it for advertising.
- Two services receive anonymous technical information: PostHog (usage statistics) and Sentry (crash reports), both on servers in the European Union. Neither receives anything that identifies you or your child.
- Deleting Auri from your device deletes everything it stored there.
What stays on your device
When a parent sets up Auri, and while the child plays, the app stores the following in its own storage on the device:
- the name your child is called at home (a nickname, not a full name) and their birth year, which is used only to pick a suitable difficulty;
- the themes your child likes (trains, dinosaurs, animals), the app language, and the sensory settings such as Calm Mode, sounds and motion;
- a record of each play session and each turn: which exercise was shown, how much help was given, whether the answer was right, and roughly how long it took;
- which skills your child has learned, and the real-life activities you marked as done or skipped.
This information is used only inside the app, to choose the next exercise and to show you the Today and Progress pages in the parent area. It is not sent to us or to anyone else. It stays on the device until you delete the app.
What leaves your device
Anonymous usage statistics (PostHog)
To understand whether Auri actually helps (for example, whether families come back, how long sessions last, and which exercises are too hard), the app sends short usage events to PostHog, on its servers in the European Union. There are twelve kinds of event the app can send: a session started or ended, a turn was answered, a skill was learned, free play started or was skipped, a real-life activity was done or skipped, the daily parent card was opened, Calm Mode was switched, a content pack failed to load, and a sync failed. Two more (a paywall was shown, a subscription was completed) exist in the code but are never sent by this version, which has nothing to buy.
Each event carries only codes and numbers, such as the type of game, the help level, right or wrong, a time band like "1–3 seconds", a number of stars or minutes, the theme and the skill area. Events never contain your child's nickname, birth year, the words of an exercise, or any free text. Each event also carries a random identifier that PostHog's software creates when the app is installed. It is not linked to you, to your Apple ID or to your child, and it lets us count returning devices, nothing more. The app turns off PostHog's IP-based location lookup, never calls PostHog's "identify" feature, and does not record the screen.
Crash reports (Sentry)
If Auri crashes or hits an unexpected error, it sends a crash report to Sentry, on its servers in the European Union (Germany). A report contains the type of error and where in the code it happened, the app version, the device model and the iOS version, and a random installation identifier. Reports never contain screenshots, what was on screen, your child's information, or your IP address.
We use these statistics and crash reports only to keep Auri working and to make it better. We never use them to contact anyone, to build a profile of a person, or to show ads. We keep them for at most 12 months, then they are deleted.
What we do not do
- No advertising, no advertising identifier (IDFA), and no tracking across other apps or websites.
- No selling or renting of data, to anyone.
- No chat between your child and an AI, and no content generated while your child plays. Every exercise was reviewed and approved by a person before release.
- No purchases, links out of the app or sign-up forms in the part of the app your child uses. The parent area sits behind a parent check (hold a button for three seconds, then answer a small multiplication question).
Children
Auri is made for children and designed to be set up and supervised by a parent. We do not collect personal information from children. The details a parent enters stay on the device. The anonymous statistics and crash reports described above contain nothing that identifies a child, and we use them only to support how the app works.
As a parent, you can stop all of this at any time by deleting the app. If you have a question, or want us to look for data linked to your device, write to us at the address below. Because the statistics are not linked to a person, we may need the random identifier to find them, and we will help you get it.
Features that are not in this version
The app shows a few features marked "coming soon", such as backing up learning data, using family photos, and listening to spoken answers. None of them is active in this version, and none of them sends anything. If we add them, we will update this policy first, and Auri will ask for a parent's permission before any of them starts.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, or to object to how it is used. Write to us and we will answer within 30 days. If you are in the European Union or the United Kingdom, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Auri handles data, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change reaches the app. For any change that sends more information off the device, Auri will ask a parent first.
